Review: Aphogee Two-Step Protein Treatment

Sunday, February 6, 2011

I have heard a lot about the Aphogee 2 Step Protein Treatment from both naturalite's and relaxee's alike. The purpose of this formula is to help to stop shedding and prevent breakage. It basically builds a protein protector around your strands to strengthen them.
My hair was not really having a problem with breakage as I very rarely put any heat on it after losing two inches to previous heat damage (3:-\ devil flat iron ). But shedding…oh the shedding. I was losing enough hair daily to cover a baby's full head, seriously. My hair is very fine and extremely delicate and I find myself wishing for the thicker hair of my 4b sisters, but I digress. SO I needed something to help in this department.

Aphogee Protein Treatment is a two step process which involves shampooing with Aphogee Shampoo for Damaged Hair, then applying the treatment and allowing it to harden under the drier (and it gets hard!) and then washing it out and conditioning with Aphogee Balancing Moisturizer.

So I shampooed first and it was definitely a shampoo I wouldn't use any other time because it left my hair with that stripped feeling that I hate.

Freshly Shampooed

Then I put in the protein and as I said before, it gets hard! Do not mess with your hair at all with the protein in, just let it sit, so as not to cause any further damage.

Product Wet:
Product Dry:

Once my hair was fully dry, I conditioned. When I washed the conditioner out, my hair was immediately super soft. Loved it! Then I put in my Cantu Leave In and Whipped Shea Butter for moisturizer.

Conditioned and Moisturized:

I braided my hair and sat under the dryer and when my hair was dry, I twisted with a little more whipped shea butter. My hair was SOFT and it was SHINY and when I twisted it pounds of hair was not coming out of my head. I instantly saw the difference in the hair that I was shedding.

I did this treatment a week ago and left my twists in. When I took them out my hair was still super shiny and nicely moisturized. My hair usually sucks up moisture within seconds but a week later it still felt as good as it did when I first put the treatment in.

I definitely recommend this product to anyone who is having issue with shedding or breakage. Now, everyone's hair is different and some people may have issues with protein so know your hair! …and do not use this product more than every six weeks so as not to cause any further issues. But if your hair is not protein sensitive and you use this product appropriately, this may be exactly what you need to help strengthen your hair and help retain it!

  1. I've used Aphogee brand before for my locs, but I haven't tried the Two-Step Protein Treatment.
