Valentine's Day Candy Cups

Sunday, February 13, 2011

Every year for Valentine's Day, I like to get into the holiday by making little gifts for my daughter's friends at school. Each year they have a Valentine's party and exchange Valentine's. Last year Zaiah's contribution included Mummy's first shot at icing cookies.

They were a hit among the kids, teachers, and parents alike.  This year I decided to go with a slightly more traditional Vday treat, cards and candy. So I decided to take a shot at these little numbers by Haley at The Autocrat when she guest blogged at Craftaholics Anonymous. Haley's original plan used soup/veggie cans for baskets but, for whatever reason, I was having a struggle pulling off the cans (didn't have enough used cans and didnt' have a much needed safety can opener) so I decided to substitute with plastic cups. Here is my version.

Cast of Characters (minus a wire cutter which comes in handy):

  • Plastic Cups
  • Scrapbook Paper
  • Trim
  • Wire
  • Valentine's Cards
  • Mini Clothespins
  • Tissue Paper
  • Hole Punch
  • Glue Gun

Attach the paper with the glue gun or tape if you don't have a glue gun handy.  For this step, it would have been much easier to use soup cans which are perfectly round. Getting the paper adhered to the cup, which narrows out at the bottom, took some extra time.

Punch holes in the sides of cup.

Hot glue your trim on.

Add wire handle and clothes pinned Valentine.

Add tissue paper and candy and there you go!

A very simple homemade Valentine that is made with love but is quick, fun, and easy.
