Apple Yummies!

We go apple picking every year and we always go to the same place. Belkin Family Lookout Farm is my favorite orchard. We have been taking Zee there since she was born. She was 5 months her first time there and could barely sit up. We balanced her long enough just to catch this...


The orchard has a train ride to take your from stop to stop, a playground, a petting zoo, shows for the kiddies, and if you go at the right time there are horse and camel rides! We usually go multiple times in the year so we get pears, plums, peaches, pumpkins, and apples. You can even go during berry season and pick fresh berries. 

Well this year  ...we went somewhere else!! :( ...and it was completely awful. Full of hills, not very friendly, the store had no delicious treats, no train and/or playground and I missed my beloved Lookout. 


But we still smiled and we did get some apples ...and I did make some treats! These treats would be great for Thanksgiving desserts!!



Baked Apple Apple Pies

3 apples
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 tbsp all purpose flour
1/4 tsp powdered cinnamon 
Store bought pie crust

Cut your apples in half horizontally and clean out the middle. Cut up the middle into chunks.  Mix up flour, cinnamon, and sugar and toss the apples inside. Refill the apples. 




Use a flower cutter and cut out pie crust tops for your apples.  You can make your own pie crust but if you're stretched for time like I was and choose to use store bought, fold your pie crust in half and then cut out the flowers. As you can see in the pic below, I didn't do that for the first one and it was too thin.


Put the tops on your apples and bake at 370 degrees until tender and pie crust is golden. DONT BAKE TOO LONG. I had some FAIL apples that completely fell apart.  But they were still SO delicious!

Inside Out Candy Apples

Granny Smith or any other sour apples. I used Macouns.
1 large lemon
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup heavy cream
2 tbs butter
2 tbs light corn syrup
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 cup chopped pecans
Chocolate sauce (optional)
Put brown sugar, corn syrup, butter, and heavy cream in a pan an boil for about 7-10 minute. Remove from heat, add vanilla, and stir until bubbling stops.  While cooking you can clean out your apples and wipe them down with lemon to keep them from browning.


Wipe out your apples so they're dry enough for the caramel to stick and fill your apples with the caramel. Sprinkle nuts on top and let sit to harden. 


Drizzle some optional chocolate sauce on top.  Believe me, its a good option ;)
